I love music. I love all genres of music. However, there are very few songs that have made me laugh. Growing up I absolutely loved Music Choice. I could meet the artist and watch their interpretation of the lyrics. In comparison, I would say it was my generation’s version of soul train. I happened to be sitting in my living room when, an era confused Black man came across my screen. He was wearing a powdered white wig, with grand curls, a size too small gold tailcoat, with a white ruffled shirt, and ill-fitted slacks. He was sanging (not singing) at the crack of his lungs on the piano. My first thought was, what the hell is this? Then, hey it’s kind of catchy. Biz Markie forever changed my idea of what a music video should be. I also think what nailed it for me, was the fact that it sounded like me, when I was trying to sing my worst (ya girl got pipes) in the shower.
The next song to hit my ears was Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and James Black King’s Dead. When future started to sing in that squeaky, high pitched voice I laughed my butt off, and hit replay. The fact that he combined Slick Rick with Doug E Fresh’s ladidadida, and Juicy J’s Slob On My Knob- which was turned into a party song, was genius.
Last, but certainly not least, was Roadman Shaq’s The Ting Goes or otherwise known as Skraa pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. I’m going to be honest, I thought this was quite possibly a real song, or a parody of mumble rappers. It turned out it was the latter; however, comedian Michael Dapaah quickly went viral, which in essence was a hit. So, there you go! My top three favorite songs that ever made me laugh. What songs made you laugh?
